Ok… good and easy to break in but the reed will not play well after 1-2 months. Had one with no cracks or chips and would play but very quietly. The reed was medium soft.

When I first began playing, I played on Emerald medium-soft reeds. They worked well enough, but I have nothing extroardinary to say about them, and I prefer ordering a different type of reed to playing on an Emerald. However, the other oboe player in my band started out on Emerald reeds, and she likes them well enough that she has continued to play on them, and hasn’t tried to find a different company to buy reeds from. She seems to like Emeralds well enough, though I find she plays consistently flat on them.

I learned on these, and they have been my back up when I run out ever since.

I got 2 Emerald oboe reeds before, they were pieces of CRAP! They weren’t even shaved; didn’t make a sound! My music teacher tried to fix them, didn’t do any good. DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!

Actually I prefer these over the Jones Oboe Reeds, they are great for beginners, but once you start advancing, you’ll want to switch to handmade reeds

I’ve used this reedmaker twice, and the first time i was only able to use it two weeks, and then i still had to fix some cracks (i used some stuff that dentists use as teeth molds). the second time i was able to use it for 6 whole months, and then i had to give it up because the reed was closing up! i don’t really recommend these, i got lucky the second time

OK these reeds are a piece of crap! I got one used it about 5 times and then after that it was a gone it would not make a sound and it started to crack!

These reeds seemed fine when I first started plying on them, but after a week or so they cracked and played extremely flat. I would NOT reccomend these to anyone.

I got 1 reed from here and it was the worst reed i have ever gotten! it was really short and really open and wouldn’t even play. I dont know if it was just that reed but I’m never going back.

I really don’t like Emerald reeds. They are fine for a couple of days, then just start sounding terrible! And mine probably wear out quicker considering that I practice for hours at one sitting. ( I LOVE my oboe!!)

This is one of the first reeds I’d ever tried, and I thought the horrible sound was due to the fact that I was a beginner. When I switched reeds, I realized it wasnt me that was making the oboe sound so bad, it was the reed! I would not recommend the reed to anyone. Ever.

As a young player, I was quite intent on finding a reed, any reed, as long as it made a noise, with no regards to tone whatsoever. That said, Emerald is the absolute worst brand I’ve ever tried, including La Voz. I tried a half dozen over the years and none of them have worked out for me. The only plus side I could see was the fact that you do indeed get what you pay for here, as they are dirt cheap (as far as reeds go).

I have only been playing for about 2 years and i have played on very many reads(kinda clumsy break them easily) but emerald have always been my very faveorite. I get them at my school. They are easier to play on and don’t break easy. I would totally recomend these!!
